Perfection or Divine Discontent?

Raise your hand if you made New Year’s resolutions. Ok, now raise your hand if you are still tracking on those New Year’s resolutions……Doesn’t Jan. 1st seem like a fog in the near but distant past? So much upheaval, old systems we used to depend on breaking down and shocking buried truths coming to light. Maybe this year we can give ourselves a break and consider January 1st as a practice run for all those well-meaning intentions.
I will admit that for the last few years, I have not participated in the ritual of January New Years Resolutions. The energy just doesn’t feel right. We are coming off of the quiet, reflective Capricorn Solstice, then on to all the festivals of light. I just don’t feel that clear. So, instead I wait until the astrological new year that starts on or around March 21st, when the luminary we call the sun, moves through the zero point of the sign of Aries, the Ram, the Pioneer, the Dare Devil, the Survivor. Can you feel it?
And this year, we also have the energy of the Virgo Full Moon Lunar Eclipse on March 3rd to help us with that restart.
Eclipses happen twice a year (around the Spring and Fall) and usually come in pairs – a solar eclipse and a lunar eclipse. Solar eclipses happen on a new moon and lunar eclipses happen on a full moon. Historically they are thought to usher in great chapters closing and great chapters opening. They are not a good time to do mystical practices. They are meant to be felt.
If an eclipse happens on a planet in your natal chart, you might feel the energy more personally, but not necessarily on the date of the eclipse. Give it up to a month before and six months after an eclipse. Remember that sometimes we need to clear the decks for the next thing that wants or needs to come into our life. And so, it is with these most recent eclipses.
We had a new moon solar eclipse in Aquarius on February 17, 2026. And while rebellion has been in the air, we are also experiencing deep dark secrets coming to light and AI run amok. Aquarius, the revolutionary, the truth sayer and the scientist. Remember, all astrological signs have a higher expression and a lower expression. Using our free will, we get to chose how we use that energy.
This next eclipse on Tuesday, March 3rd is a full moon lunar eclipse in Virgo, the perfectionist, the analyst, the servant. Can we choose the higher expression of this Virgonean energy? In the words of astrologer Steven Forrest,
“We are all here on earth to grow, and there is no more efficient mechanism for that growth than Virgo. With placements in Virgo, you are burning evolutionary rocket fuel. In principle, your level of drive – of divine discontent – is such that you will not waste a moment of this precious human incarnation. You will goad yourself, press yourself, and never rest on your laurels.”
Can we look at our resolutions and practices around health and well-being and recommit ourselves to a higher state of being and care? During full moons, it is thought to be an ending of a cycle. So, can we let go of the patterns that sabotage our best intentions around new health routines? We need to be our best healthy stable selves to anchor the in-coming winds of change.
And while the inner critical Virgo can brow beat themselves better than anyone ever could, maybe we can lean into the more positive expression and rededicate ourselves to a healthier way of living and serving one another. Start preparing those resolutions for March 21st!
With So Much Love from Me and the Stars,
Meg
